Just think about the problem as functions.įor example the derivative of cosx you take the derivative of the outside which is -sinx then multiply by derivative of inside which is 1. It’s just if you only have one function the derivative of a single variable is 1. You technically always use the chain rule. Good luck!Īlso I see that you have troubles with the chain rule. Most students find Calc 2 to be the hardest in the series I passed it on my FOURTH try and still got accepted to three top-25 schools. (This varies college to college)Īlso, I suggest taking Calc 1 next semester, Calc 2 in the spring, and Calc 3 over the summer. It's also a great survey of all the topics you'll cover next semester in Calc 1!!ĭon't switch to P/NP bc it might not be replaceable with a letter grade. Learn what d/dx, f'(x), dy/dx, etc mean while you're taking this class. I worked as a math tutor at my community college and almost none of my Calc students had a real grip on the meaning of the notation. You're likely past the drop date for a summer class, but most colleges let you replace a D or F grade when you retake it. Start focusing on understanding the topics and new notation system instead of success. Taking it as a 5-wk summer class was a big mistake, but you can still rescue this! I think you need to accept the L tho. Get very familiar with chain rule cause you're gonna need it and get used to the definition of a limit. Derivative is just the slope, a rate of change and nothing more. Who knows, maybe everyone else will also fail and the curve will bless you with a B. Keep practicing, keep getting that tutoring, possibly try youtube cause there are a few creators that are just *chef's kiss* at teaching it. And sadly, Calculus is just so different than algebra based math that anything other than trig isn't going to help or prepare you for it. It's not really something you can easily speed through and really is best taken slowly. Calc I is the foundation for Calc II and III, not to mention a lot of physics based classes. Doing it for Calc I was probably a bad idea though. Well, that's just what happens in these 5-6 week courses. I would like to say that I am pretty good at math and science, the class just goes by so fast- we have already been through 9 sections in 6 days of class!Įdit 2: thank you for all the advice and kind words !! ❤️ I also got an A or B in all science classes and even took a few AP ones as well. Any advice on what to do?Įdit: I did take the advanced classes of math at my high school and got an A or B each year. I need to get an A or B in all math and science courses to get into the College of Engineering at the university. I am at a community college currently and wanting to transfer to a university after my first year at the community college. We just took our first exam and I am pretty sure I failed it. Even with a tutor and hours of practice/ homework every night, I have D in the class. The class is extremely accelerated and only a 5 week course, and I never even took pre-calc. I graduated high school 2 weeks ago and thought it would be a good idea to to Calc 1 over the summer so that I could take Calc 2 & 3 during my fall and spring semester.
